How to chat
New to roleplay? Here's everything you need to dive in.
Just talk
Type what you'd say, like a normal message. The character reads it and replies in character.
Use *asterisks* for what you do
*I pull up a chair and sit down.* Wrap actions and description in asterisks. Plain text is what you say out loud: "Mind if I join you?"
Write as “you”
Speak in the first person — I, me. The character is the other person in the scene; you play yourself (or your alias).
Think to yourself privately
Put your character's private inner thoughts in (parentheses). The others can't hear the words — they'll never repeat them back — but the story quietly reflects what you're feeling, shaping the mood and what happens next. Also handy for a short out-of-character note to set the scene.
You drive the story
Say or do anything. Change the mood, the genre, the direction — the character follows your lead. There's no wrong move.
Keep turns bite-sized
A line or two per message leaves the character room to react. You don't have to write a whole paragraph.
Pick who you are
When you start a chat you choose an alias — the persona the character knows you as. Create aliases from the menu in the top-right.
Fix a wrong move
Tap “Edit last message” in a chat to rewrite your last turn and get a fresh reply.
Re-roll a reply
Not feeling the character's response? Tap Regenerate under it for a fresh take, and swipe between versions — the one you land on becomes part of the story.
Let them keep talking
Nothing to add? Tap Continue and the character takes another turn on their own — handy for pacing or nudging a quiet scene along.
Tweak their reply
Tap Edit under the character's message to rewrite it yourself — perfect for fixing a small slip without re-rolling the whole reply.
Direct one character (group chats)
In a group chat, tap a @Name chip above the box (or just type @Name) to aim your message at that character so they take the lead in replying.
Stuck for what to say?
Tap Ideas for a few suggestions drawn from your story so far — tap one to drop it straight into the box.
Hear it aloud
Tap Read under any reply to have it read out to you.
Save for later
Tap the bookmark on a character's card (or in its preview) to save it. Your saved characters get their own row on the browse page so you can jump back in any time.
Rate what you love
Give a character 1–5 stars in its preview. The average rating shows on its card, helping everyone find the standouts.
Mature content & the age gate
18+ characters ask you to confirm you're 18 or older once, before your first mature chat. Even then, mature themes only come up if you take the scene there.
No fixed ending
The story continues until you decide it's over. 18+ characters allow mature themes — only if you steer the scene there.
